Georgie Lyons is a singer/songwriter, guitar player, born and raised in Calgary Alberta. She has been performing and teaching professionally for 20 years. Georgie completed a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Calgary studying classical guitar. She later went on to complete a Bachelor of Education Degree and is presently working as a Music Specialist.
She has performed as a solist and in small and large ensembles. She has played in all types of settiings from weddings and lounges to larger venues such as cabarets and music festivals.
Georgie has received awards as a vocalist and a guitar player. She was awarded first place at Kiwanis Music Festival in the category of Classical Guitar Soloist, and was selected as the top Vocalist for the All Star Band at the National Jazz Competition in Vancouver B.C.
Georgie’s song writing shows influences of country, blues and jazz with evidence of her classical guitar background. In 2011 she released her debut CD "Since You Came Along" that she recorded at The Tracking Room, in Nashville Tennessee. She wrote and co-wrote the songs with award winning songwriter and producer Ron McNeill.
In 2013 Ron McNeill and Georgie teamed up again, bringing their Candian country and roots music to a world stage. Together they wrote the feature song "Let It Burn, " for the movie "For The Love Of Children." The song was performed by Ron McNeill and the Calgary Arts Academy Children’s Choir, under the direction of Georgie Lyons. The movie was premiered at The Monaco International film festival winning Best Feature Documentary and Best Picture. The movie currently has scheduled screenings in India, Peru, Mexio, Europe and Canada.
As an Educator Georgie has taught children from Kindergarten to Grade Twelve. She has taught Junior and Senior High School Band, Choir, Musical Theatre and Elementary Music. She has directed and composed numerous Musicals and has worked with a cast of up to five hundred children.
